Kansas City Urban Impact Center

The Urban Impact Center is the West Central Region 1890 Extension Program by the Lincoln University of Missouri, located in the 12th Street Heritage District. The programs serve limited-resource and minority audiences for youth, families, and seniors in the Kansas City area. We offer programs in post-secondary plans, youth leadership with 4-H, STEM, youth summer camp, money management, and personal health and wellness. For our seniors and families, we offer workforce preparedness, money management, book club, legacy, game day, L&L, speakers club, and health/fitness.

Provide programs and services to our community to meet their needs and enhance their quality of life.

Youth Programs

Targeting ages 7-13 in the KC metro area, The Building Blocks aims to address declining motor, social, and moral skills and provide recommendations for success.
Lift Tutoring promotes healthy study habits and improving school test scores by providing one-on-one academic assistance to youth aged 8-16 in Kansas City.
Aims to develop essential skills for healthy adolescent stress management in youth aged 10-16.
BeYOUtiful-Girl Magic is aimed at young ladies aged 10-16 in the KC metro area, to teach women empowerment and etiquette, enabling them to establish entrepreneurial skills.
Healthy Habits is open to children aged 8-16 in the metro area, promoting healthy eating habits for their growth into vibrant, thriving individuals.
Designed to provide a comfortable environment for young ladies aged 10-16 in the KC metro area, Keep It Together Sis promotes inclusivity, empathy, and confidentiality.

Family, Community & Consumer Sciences Programs

This program is designed to improve health, outreach communication, and educational opportunities for our senior adults in the State of Missouri. The goal is to address critical issues facing our aging population and help low-income seniors to maintain a quality of life.
This program will delve into the history of African American citizens. The program will aid with completing a genogram and understanding their heritage and with genealogy and researching their backgrounds.
This program will assist the seniors with movement regularly. The class will provide the option of sitting in a chair or standing with the understanding that standing or sitting is important for moving your body.
The program will provide an opportunity for seniors to keep their brains and minds active by reading chapter books and discussing the chosen book one time per month. This will provide socialization as well as conversation that will assist with memory.
This program is very popular with seniors. The seniors learn to crochet, knit, and sew. This program provides interaction and instruction. The program is popular because it assists with dexterity and movement of their hands and reduces swelling and arthritis.
This program assists stakeholders across the life span to create garden projects,
gain knowledge about aquaculture systems, composting, home and community gardens, vermiculture, and other value-added projects that have the potential for entrepreneurial activities. Workshops and curriculum will be offered to children as well as adults. This program will provide a leaning environment that will improve awareness, increase awareness in agricultural best practices and environmental awareness through participating in science- based workshops, classes, and seminars.
