SOCIAL WORK ORGANIZATIONS


Student Social Work Association (SSWA)

The Lincoln University Student Social Work Association (SSWA) is a student association that provides opportunities that prepares social work majors in their progression towards becoming professional social workers. The SSWA encourages students to socialize with others in the field to provide support and cohesion. The SSWA sponsors meetings and events to present more information about the profession and to advocate for opportunities of social change. These learning experiences may include, but are not limited to, symposiums featuring quest speakers, film screenings and field of study specific workshops. The association also promotes interaction with local area professionals allowing students to gain insights on working with people and issues related to the social work profession. The SSWA also sponsors fundraisers each year to support their continued activities and to fund community service projects.

Phi Alpha Honor Society

The Lincoln University Phi Alpha Honor Society (Phi Alpha), Chi Chapter recognizes students who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.  Criteria for selection is undergraduate students shall be enrolled in the institution represented by the chapter, have declared a major in social work, have completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses and at least 37.5% of the total hours/credits required for the degree, whichever is later achieved, and rank in the top 35% of their class.  Phi Alpha works in conjunction with withe Student Social Work Association with activities, events, and service projects both on and off campus.
