Mission Statement

The Lincoln University Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) Program is dedicated to nurturing future social workers with a socially conscious outlook and a progressive approach grounded in student-centered learning. Using high-impact educational practices, we empower our students to engage in complex social issues and advocate for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice at both local and global levels.

The program equips students for entry-level careers in generalist social work practice and prepares them for graduate education. Grounded in a strong liberal arts foundation and professional training, it emphasizes a person-in-environment perspective and the profession's dedication to human rights, social justice, and respect for diversity. The BSSW Program nurtures ethical, competent practitioners committed to enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.

 

Accreditation Status

The Lincoln University Social Work Program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 2011. The program's next accreditation review is scheduled for June 2034.

 

Assessment

Assessment allows the program to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in promoting student achievement of program learning objectives and CSWE competencies. The Social Work Program has identified specific assignments throughout the curriculum to assess these objectives and competencies. Each CSWE competency is evaluated at least twice, including once during field placement. Program learning objectives serve as overall indicators of student progress.

 

CSWE Competencies

Students in the Lincoln University BSSW Program are assessed throughout the curriculum on the nine social work competencies established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE 2022 EPAS):

  2. Advance Human Rights and Social, Racial, Economic, and Environmental Justice
  3. Engage Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) in Practice
  4. Engage in Practice-Informed Research and Research-Informed Practice
  5. Engage in Policy Practice
  6. Engage with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  7. Assess Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  8. Intervene with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  9. Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities

These competencies are embedded in the curriculum to equip students with a well-rounded education and the professional knowledge base necessary for successful social work practice.

 

Assessment Outcomes

The Lincoln University BSSW Program publicly reports student assessment outcomes in accordance with CSWE accreditation standards. Outcomes are assessed annually and reported below.
