This paid, full-time summer internship runs June 1 – August 1, 2026, and is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in serving communities while developing career-ready skills.
Program Purpose
The Cooperative Extension Summer Internship Program introduces students to careers in Cooperative Extension by immersing them in education, outreach, and community engagement work. Interns are placed with county-based Extension educators or campus-based Extension specialists and coordinators, gaining firsthand experience in Extension programming and service.
What You’ll Do
This is a hands-on internship where students actively contribute to Extension’s mission. Intern responsibilities include:
- Designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that improve lives and communities
- Assisting with program preparation, including research, material development, and participant outreach
- Developing educational resources and delivering presentations
- Maintaining a reflective journal documenting internship experiences
- Participating in orientation and professional development activities
- Creating and presenting a PowerPoint summarizing the internship experience
You won’t just observe—you’ll engage, create, and lead.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must have completed freshman year of college before June 1, 2026
- Undergraduate students: Minimum GPA of 2.75
- Graduate students: Minimum GPA of 3.00
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and stay organized
- Willingness to travel locally and work flexible hours
Travel expectations vary by classification, with mileage reimbursement available when Extension vehicles are not provided.
Compensation and Work Schedule
- Undergraduate Interns:
- Up to 40 hours per week
- $15/hour
- Graduate Interns:
- Up to 40 hours per week
- $18/hour
This is a paid, professional experience designed to prepare students for future careers.
