Operation ID-ent

Every year, persons lose valuable equipment and personal items to thieves.

To assist in recovering the items, it is necessary to have a complete description of the article and an accompanying serial number. Often your valuables will not have a serial number on them, so you may have to engrave one of your own.

Usually your social security number will serve as a positive identification and you can inscribe it yourself with a little help.

The Lincoln University Police Department has engravers available to you and will assist in placing appropriate identification on your equipment.

We recommend the following:

  • Keep your doors locked whenever you are out.
  • Do not leave your room when persons unknown to you are visiting.
  • Report any loss immediately to the Department of Public Safety.
  • Engrave your valuables and keep an accurate record of each item.

If you have any questions or would like to participate in the Operation ID-ent Program, call the LU Police Department at (573) 681-5555.

How To Engrave Your Valuables

The engraver works like a pen. Get a tin can and practice once and you'll see how easy it really is.

Find a location on your property that is hidden from view and is in a place that will not devalue the item.

Engrave your items with numbers that are unique to you only (such as drivers license number or student ID). Use the same number on all items.

Complete the Property Inventory Form with all pertinent information.

Keep the form in a safe location for future reference.

BE PREPARED. THE PROPERTY YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN!
