Returning Student Housing
Renters Insurance is an optional but highly encouraged part of our housing application. You can always decline this option, or complete the application and purchase renters insurance later.

If you need housing accommodations, start the process as soon as possible. It takes time, so we highly encourage beginning as soon as possible.

What You Need to Do
If you are returning for spring:
- You DO NOT HAVE TO MOVE OUT
- Just take the personal items you need during the Winter Break
- Your room and remaining belongings will be waiting for you when the buildings reopen for the spring semester
KEY HAND IN during Winter Break:
All students must turn in their room keys when they leave for the
Winter Break. A $185 charge will be applied for any keys not returned.
Badge access to Dawson will be deactivated during the break.
Eligibility Criteria
Break housing will be provided for students who meet the stated criteria, apply for break housing in your Housing Portal, and are approved. JUST BECAUSE YOU APPLY FOR BREAK HOUSING DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE APPROVED.
You may be eligible for Break Housing if you are…
In an academic class that ends after the residence hall closing date & time
- An athlete on an athletic team in season
- Student Teacher
- International Student
- Student whose home state is an extreme distance (500+ miles from campus)
- Employed on campus (supervisor and department must be included on request)
- Academic-based internship for credit (internship site and hours must be included on request)
Application & Deadlines
All break housing requests must be submitted prior to the deadlines. Requests received after the deadline may not be eligible for consideration. Submitting a request DOES NOT guarantee that your request has been approved.
Cost
The cost of break housing is $250. Any student found to be occupying campus housing without authorization during any part of a break will be assessed a $200.00 per day penalty in addition to possible judicial sanctions.
Guest Policy
Residents who are approved for break housing are not allowed visitors. The only exception is another on-campus approved break housing student. That exception to the non-visitation policy ends at 11:30 PM each night.
Residents are reminded that if they do not follow established procedures during the Break Housing period, they could be removed from campus for the remainder of the break period. The Lincoln University MO Student Handbook applies during break/vacation housing.
Dining During Break
There will be no campus meal service during winter break
Health & Safety Inspections
Room and building health and safety inspections will take place over the winter break. These inspections will be conducted by Facilities Management and Residence Life staff. Staff will access residential buildings and rooms between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to complete the inspections.
On-Call & Mail Services
The Office of Residence Life & Student Development will have limited staff and hours during the winter break. Mail will continue to be delivered to residence halls and will be available for pick-up at the front desk between 6 p.m. and midnight.
After-hours assistance will be available through the RA or RD on call, or LUPD.
Keys & Lockouts
During the winter break, Residence Life & Student Development will have limited staff on campus. It is important to always have your keys AND ID badge with you. If you are locked out of your room or need assistance with your keys, please contact the RA or RD on call or LUPD.
Please note that lockouts are charged at $25 per occurrence.
BEFORE DEPARTING FOR WINTER BREAK
Get Your Room Ready
- Throw away perishable food
- Take out all trash to the dumpster
- Unplug everything
- Clean your fridge, but leave it plugged in
- Do laundry or take dirty clothes, towels and linens home
- Close and lock windows, lower blinds
- Turn off all lights
- Lock your door
- Do not block the vents
- As stated in the Student Handbook, the Office of Residence Life & Student Development does not allow the storage of personal belongings within the residence halls. There is also no space on campus dedicated to long-term storage of students’ belongings.
- Summer housing is only available for undergraduate students currently enrolled at Lincoln University, MO.

- End of Semester: Friday, May 12 – Residence Halls close at 12 p.m.
