Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Mental Health Counseling (Community/Agency): Transform Lives Through Professional Counseling
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Mental Health Counseling (Community/Agency) at Lincoln University prepares students for professional counseling practice and meets the educational requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure as determined by the Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors. Designed for students with a strong background in psychology, social work or related fields, the program provides rigorous academic preparation and professional development opportunities to support success in counseling settings. Students are encouraged to work closely with their advisors throughout the program and are required to pass the NCE (National Counseling Exam) as part of their degree requirements.

This M.Ed program is designed for students seeking licensure as a counselor. The small class sizes and caring faculty enable students to develop relationships that allow them to explore various aspects of the field. LU’s program aligns with the state requirements for licensure. Many of our students are eligible for their provisional license and find employment in the field after graduation.

Culminating Experience
- Students are required to take the NCE (National Counseling Examination) or CPCE (Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination) and receive at least the minimum score identified by the college.
- Students must complete 600 hours of clinical field experience, including 240 hours of direct services and 360 hours of indirect services.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
- Completed LU graduate application packet.
- Statement of purpose related to your program of interest.
- Letters of recommendation (3).
- Typical course load per semester: 9 hours

- Submit all required documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, goal statement, resume)
- Pay a $30 application fee
- Application review by Graduate Studies and program faculty
- Once all documents are submitted, we request 10 business days for departments to review the application packet and respond.
- Admission decision notification
- Applicants will receive a notification letter with information regarding their admission status via their personal email. If admitted, this letter will include information regarding their student ID and University e-mail.
- Schedule a meeting with an advisor.

Yes, but they have to be submitted to the student’s advisor for review. Lincoln University may accept up to 9 hours of transfer credit. In order for the transfer of credits to be considered, credits must be received within the past 5 years.
