LU-MRRL Lecture Series: The U.S. and the Northern Triangle

In recent years, migration from the Northern Triangle across the U.S.-Mexico border has emerged as a flashpoint in domestic politics. Lost in pundit and politicians' lurid descriptions of migrant caravans, child separation, and the border "crisis" is the historical roots of U.S. relations with Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Dr. Micah Wright, assistant professor of history, will provide an overview of this history, from the Cold War to the Biden Administration, highlighting the evolution of U.S. migration law and popular opinion in the hopes of contributing to a more nuanced discussion of border security and immigration policy.
