Lincoln University Earns National Accreditation for Educator Preparation Programs

September 17th, 2025

The Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) has awarded full seven-year accreditation to Lincoln University’s programs for preparing teachers and school counselors.

“We are honored to receive this national recognition, which reflects our unwavering commitment to preparing highly skilled educators who serve the diverse needs of Missouri and beyond,” said Lincoln University President John Moseley. “This achievement affirms our mission of educational excellence and opportunity, and I am deeply grateful to our dedicated faculty and staff for ensuring our students are equipped to make a lasting impact in today’s schools as the next generation of qualified educators.”

After reviewing evidence collected through a process of self-study and peer review, the AAQEP Accreditation Commission issued its decision at the June 24 meeting. The commission found that Lincoln University’s programs met all four national standards, citing their effectiveness in preparing adaptable, professional educators; consistent use of evidence and reflection to maintain quality; strong engagement with community partners; and clear plans for continued growth and improvement.

“Congratulations to Lincoln University and to all of the faculty, staff and stakeholders who have achieved their goal of national accreditation by AAQEP,” said AAQEP President and CEO Mark LaCelle-Peterson. “The institution fulfills critical P-12 partner needs through its Para to Pro program, preparing educators who reflect the diversity of the schools and communities they serve.”

National accreditation assures the quality of professional preparation programs through a nongovernmental, nonregulatory process of self-study and peer review. This standards- and evidence-based process serves two broad aims: accountability and continuous improvement. The AAQEP model is also designed to honor local context and foster innovation and collaboration among institutions.

“The Educator Preparation Program of Lincoln University is honored to be awarded national accreditation from AAQEP,” said Lincoln University Chair of the School of Education and Associate Professor Stephanie Clark, Ed.D. “They are truly invested in supporting educator preparation programs across the nation. This accreditation ensures our ongoing efforts toward continuous improvement of our programs.”
