The fall 2025 cohort of Lincoln University’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate program will have their tuition fully covered, thanks to a $22,000 grant from the AT&T Scholarship Fund. Each trainee in the program will benefit from full tuition support, valued at $1,600 per student.
The EMT certificate program is offered through Lincoln University’s Security Sciences Institute (SSI), which is dedicated to preparing students to meet today’s evolving public safety and security challenges. SSI provides innovative online and hybrid certificate programs in EMT, cybersecurity, GIS and mental health for first responders. With strong partnerships at the local and state level, the institute creates direct pathways to meaningful careers in emergency services, law enforcement, healthcare and the security industry.
Lincoln’s EMT certificate program is designed as a hybrid model that can be completed in one semester. The first half of the semester focuses on academic coursework, while the second half emphasizes clinical, hands-on training. The program satisfies all state requirements for initial EMT certification or the mandatory two-year recertification of existing credentials, making it accessible both to aspiring first responders and to current medical assistants or technicians seeking advancement.
Demand for skilled EMTs continues to grow nationwide. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of EMTs is projected to increase 6% between 2023 and 2033 — faster than the average for all occupations. This growth is driven by several factors, including an aging population, increasing demand for emergency care in rural areas and the need to replace workers leaving the field. By covering tuition costs for the Fall 2025 cohort, the AT&T Scholarship Fund is helping Lincoln University address this workforce need while expanding access to high-quality training.
The Security Sciences Institute reflects Lincoln University’s commitment to innovative education that meets workforce demands. Its flexible certificate programs allow students to advance their education and careers without sacrificing accessibility or quality.
Applications for the spring semester are currently being accepted. The spring cohort will begin the program on January 12, 2026.
