Individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in their communities will soon have a new pathway to advance their careers. In fall 2025, Lincoln University of Missouri will launch a fully online Master of Arts in Community and Economic Development (MACED) program. Designed for working professionals, the program prepares students for leadership roles in public service, nonprofit organizations and development initiatives. With accelerated 8-week courses, students can complete the degree in as little as 18 months while continuing to work.
“At Lincoln, we are committed to building stronger communities through education,” said Lincoln University President John Moseley. “The MACED program reflects our mission to prepare students for impactful roles in public service, nonprofit leadership, urban and rural development and beyond.”
The MACED program equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to lead strategic community and economic development efforts. Graduates will gain a deep understanding of development theories and practices, learn to analyze data and policies to address local challenges and develop the leadership capabilities necessary to manage projects that promote sustainable growth and equity. The curriculum also emphasizes civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and policy advocacy, empowering students to drive transformative change across various sectors.
This 36-credit-hour program includes 27 hours of core coursework, 9 hours in a chosen concentration area and the completion of a professional portfolio or capstone project. These components are designed to help students synthesize and apply what they’ve learned to real-world development scenarios. Whether transitioning into a new field or advancing in a current role, the MACED program offers a flexible, rigorous pathway to becoming a catalyst for community progress.
