Overview of Circulation and Library Use Procedures

Checkout Procedures

The Library is a member of MOBIUS, a Library consortium that provides the Library catalog, which lists the books, magazines, and journals in the Library (https://arthur.searchmobius.org/search). This catalog links to the other consortium member catalogs as well, totaling more than 60 academic, special, and public libraries across the state of Missouri, as well as libraries in Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas into one catalog. This catalog provides access to a total combined collection of over 30,000,000 items, most of which can be requested by enrolled students, faculty, and staff of Lincoln University. Once requested, these items are delivered within four to seven working days via courier. Students, faculty, and staff can also visit other member libraries and check out materials directly by presenting their valid campus IDs, once their records are added to the library database. Students, faculty, and staff of other MOBIUS affiliates have reciprocal privileges. There is also a cooperative agreement with the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, providing access to library materials in Colorado and Wyoming.

Items in the periodicals, reference, Special Collections, and Archives do not circulate.

Patrons may check out videos (maximum 2) from the media department for 2 days. Lincoln University faculty may check out 10 videos for 14 days.

Items in the general stacks, children’s, African American Studies, special, oversize, and government documents collections may be checked out by patrons and graduate students for 30 days, staff for 60 days, and faculty and members of the Board of Curators for the semester. Items may be renewed twice unless they are requested by another patron, in which case, they will be recalled.

Patrons must present their library card at the time of checkout.

Community Patrons

Effective January 1, 2011, all community patrons must have a Missouri River Regional Library Card.

Community patrons are entitled to borrow Lincoln University of Missouri library materials and use the computers available in the library but are may not use MOBIUS services.

Jefferson City resident patrons are limited to a maximum of three items checked out and must have a Missouri River Regional Library card to participate in Lincoln University’s community borrowing privileges.

Renewal

Renewing an item extends the checkout period as if it had been checked out again. Items may be renewed twice unless another patron has a hold on it.

Items may be renewed by phone, in person at the library, or by the patron through the electronic catalog or remote access to the library system.

To renew an item by phone, a patron must have his/her ID card and the items to be renewed. To renew an item through the catalog/OPAC, the patron will need either their Lincoln University student ID number or Missouri River Regional Library Card number. Please call (573) 681-5509 to renew items.

If an attempt to renew an item fails, the patron should contact the Page Library circulation desk as soon as possible to determine the reason the item could not be renewed. Page Library staff are not allowed to change the records of other institutions. Please call (573) 681-5509 to renew by phone.

Fine Policy

If items you borrow are overdue, we send you a reminder notice. If you still do not return them, we send a bill for replacement cost. You also will not be able to place holds or check out anything until either the overdue items are returned or your replacement bill is paid.

Books borrowed from other libraries through MERLIN or MOBIUS may be subject to overdue fines, which are imposed by those libraries.
