Graphic for LU-MRRL Lecture Series presents: MO' Monsters 2: Monsters of the Ozarks with event presenter and details, plus depictions of monsters

You are invited to the upcoming LU-MRRL Lecture Series event, "MO' Monsters 2: Monsters of the Ozarks." This event is scheduled for Monday, October 21 from 6:30-8 pm at the Art Gallery, Missouri River Regional Library (214 Adams Street, Jefferson City). This talk will feature Dr. Christine Elisabeth Boston, Associate Professor of Anthropology & Sociology. The complete talk summary is below:

Two years ago, Dr. Christine E. Boston, associate professor of anthropology and sociology, delighted audiences with her discussion on Missouri Cryptids, and she returns now with the second installment on this theme--Ozark monsters. People of the Ozarks practiced cultural traditions, beliefs, and values, many of which were not that different from the greater American culture of the time. One interesting aspect of Ozark culture was a fantastic storytelling tradition. Their "yarns" or "windies" on various monsters, including the child-stealing Painter, the monstrous Gowrow, the unlucky Snawfus, the livestock stealing Giasticutus, and the peculiar Side Hill Hoofer, not only entertain listeners but provide insights into Ozark cultures, all of which will be explored in this program.
