This talk will feature Dr. Mick Brewer, Assistant Professor of Communications, who will be giving a talk on the following:

This talk will focus on women's representation among the entertainment media economy in the current sociopolitical moment. Dr. Mick Brewer, assistant professor of communications, will discuss how feminist discourses concerning body positivity, bodily autonomy, and gender expression are creating both liberating possibilities and, simultaneously, constraining hurdles for the ways aging women are positioned in mainstream entertainment and, subsequently, socially sanctioned to age "appropriately." Specific attention will be paid to this unique double-bind faced by middle-aged and "aging" women, implications, and best practices moving forward for entertainment media creators and consumers.
