WHO MAY ENTER
The contest is open to any print or broadcast journalist working for a recognized daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly publication, newspaper, magazine, radio, or television station.
WHAT MAY BE SUBMITTED
All entries must have appeared or been aired (in the medium used) for the first time in the calendar year 2006. All entries are subject to acceptance by the UAIM Committee. The Committee reserves the right to withhold awards in any category where there are insufficient entries or where the judges determine no entry is of winning quality.The Committee also reserves the right to move an entry from one category to another if it is determined the entry was submitted in an incorrect category. Entries in all categories and divisions may be made as single entries or a series. Series entries must be clearly identified as such in the publication or broadcast.All entries become the property of Lincoln University Division of Humanities, Fine Arts and Journalism and Unity Awards in Media.
The categories in all divisions are:
A. Reporting of Economics
B. Reporting of Education
C. Investigative Reporting
D. Reporting of Politics
E. Editorial Writing
F. Public Affairs/Social Issues Reporting
1. Print: General Audience
Publications in this division cater to a general, heterogeneous readership. One original copy of the entry must be submitted. The second copy may be a photocopy.Affix official entry blank to the upper right corner of each entry.
2. Print: Minority Audience
Publications in this division cater to a specifically identified minority audience.One original copy of the entry must be submitted. The second copy may be a photocopy.Affix official entry blank to the upper right corner of each entry.
3. Broadcasting: Radio
Radio entries must be submitted on 1/4" reel or standard audio cassettes. There can be only one entry per reel or cassette. There must be duplicate cassettes or reels for each entry.Affix official entry forms to radio reel or cassette container. Be sure each reel or cassette is also identified by company and title.
Each single entry or series entry must be accompanied by a $75.00 fee. Check(s) must be attached to the entry form and submitted with two copies of each entry. Make checks payable to: Lincoln University of Missouri Unity Awards In Media.
An entry may be submitted in more than one category. Two copies of the entry must be submitted for each category and an entry fee paid for each category. (An entry into two categories would require that four copies be sent and a $150 entry fee.) Two different entries in the same category require two entry fees.
Unity Awards In Media judges are chosen from a broad spectrum of journalists and broadcasters, including editors, reporters, and teachers. Judges are selected for their expertise in journalism and broadcasting and also for their sensitivity to the needs and values of minority communities with regard to media coverage. Judges decisions are final.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Letters to winners will be mailed in the Summer 2008 and winners will be posted on the web.
Duplicate awards may be ordered through the Division of Humanities, Fine Arts and Journalism. Details for ordering will be supplied to award winners.
