MISSION

The mission of Learning in Retirement, Inc. (LIR), through its affiliation with Lincoln University, is to provide continuous learning opportunities and to promote sharing of ideas, knowledge and experience for retired and/or seniors in Jefferson City and the surrounding area.

OUR ORGANIZATION

Throughout the year LIR offers many activities that promote our mission. At the end of June and at the end of December, a newsletter is published describing upcoming activities for our membership - travel, classes, interest clubs, and other special events. Newsletters (current and past) can be viewed on the Newsletters page of this website.

Travel may include day trips and overnight excursions. Classes may meet one time only, or once per week for 2-, 3- and 4-week periods. Classes have a minimal fee of $3.00 each. Most interest clubs meet monthly, although, some meet weekly. There is no charge for club participation.

A single-page summary of LIR travel, classes and clubs can be downloaded here.

In mid-January and mid-July, LIR hosts a business meeting, and in December LIR hosts a holiday gathering. Occasionally, other special events are also offered. Photos of past activities can be viewed on the Memories page.

Our January and July business meetings are open to the public. Non-members are welcome to attend and learn a bit more about Learning in Retirement. Membership is required to participate in all other activities.

Upcoming travel, courses and meetings can be view on the Calendar page.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is required in order to participate in the activities sponsored by Learning in Retirement. An annual membership fee of $40 is due in January of each year. New members joining after June 30 will pay a membership fee of $25 for the remainder of the first year. An application is available on the Forms page.

Learning in Retirement exists because of its membership. It is a volunteer-run organization, so members are encouraged to help in areas that interest them if they are able.
