Dr. Ajay Sharma is an applied forest ecologist. He employs empirical, experimental, and modeling approaches to understand the effects of management activities on forest ecosystem structure, composition, and development over time, particularly for forest stands with multiple-use or restoration management objectives. This understanding of stand dynamics helps natural resource managers and practitioners to devise and apply appropriate interventions to meet the diverse goals of management including timber production, biomass harvest, carbon sequestration, structural complexity, and forest restoration. Most of his current research has focused on southern pine ecosystems and Missouri Oak-Hickory Forests.
