LINCOLN UNIVERSITY TO HOST LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE

Jefferson City, MO- High school students will learn the tools of leadership as part of a three-day conference scheduled for this summer on the campus of Lincoln University.  The Beta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the Midwest Region Leadership Development Institute (LDI) June 20 through 22

The Leadership Development Institute is a component of the national Leadership Development/Citizen Education Initiative of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  Held in five geographic regions of the country, the purpose of the LDI is to equip male high school students, particularly those in their sophomore through senior years, with the necessary skill set needed for leadership in the 21st century.  Over the three days, participants are offered insight from professionals, usually members of Alpha Phi Alpha, in various areas including public speaking, conflict resolution, community and civic engagement and educational enhancement.

LDI organizers found Lincoln University to be a good fit to host the conference. “Lincoln University plays a key role in the development of future leaders and this partnership will strengthen the commitments of both the university and Alpha Phi Alpha in continuing that practice,” says Jerome Offord, Jr, President of the Beta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc.  Offord adds the fraternity’s decision to hold the event on the Lincoln University campus is part of an ongoing collaboration with the institution.  “The LDI continues our commitment to serve and support Lincoln University, just as we do with our annual fundraiser for the President’s Residence Restoration project.”

Lincoln University President Dr. Kevin Rome says the institute will provide a great opportunity for the participants and the university.  “The unique opportunity will allow Lincoln University to not only share its heritage and history with these young men, but will also showcase the Jefferson City community as a wonderful destination to pursue higher education.”

Those interested in registering for the Midwest Region Leadership Development Institute hosted by the Beta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. should contact Jerome Offord, Jr. at jeromeoffordjr@gmail.com for a registration packet.  Early bird registration runs through April 12, with regular registration ending on May 23.
