What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan is a service through which users may borrow material not owned by Page Library. Interlibrary Loan is a voluntary service between libraries that will allow Page Library to provide you with global access to information.

Who may use Interlibrary Loan Services?

ILL services are available to all Lincoln University Faculty, Staff and Students.

How long does it take to receive ordered material?

Although we receive some material in seven days or less, it is best to allow 10-14 days to receive material. Harder to find material may take longer.

How many requests may be made at one time?

You may submit as many requests as you would like; however, the ILL department will only process 5 per day per patron to allow for timely processing.

How much does it cost to use the ILL service?

ILL is generally a free service because we make every effort to borrow from libraries that do not charge a fee. However, some libraries do charge for lending material.

If the material you request can only be obtained from a library that charges, we will ask you if you want to pay the fee before we request the item. Charges can range anywhere from $10-$40.

How long may I keep material?

If the requested material is a photocopy of a journal article, the photocopy is yours to keep. If the material requested is a book, the loan period depends on the lending library; but generally the loan is for 3 weeks.

You may request one renewal per book. The lending library may or may not grant the renewal. If they deny a renewal, the material is due back immediately. Call 681-5512 to request a renewal. Please have the IL number available when making a renewal request.

How do I know when my ILL material is here, and where do I pick it up?

The ILL staff will phone you when your material arrives. However, it is your responsibility to be sure that we have your current phone number. It is always a good idea for you to check on the status of your ILL material. Please call the ILL department between the hours of 8am and 5pm at 681-5512. You may pick up your ILL material at the Circulation Desk in Page Library.

What types of material may be requested?

Requests can be made for journal articles, books, dissertations, and other research materials not owned by Page Library. Most libraries will not lend video and audio materials.

Be aware, if you are requesting a recently published book, it may be difficult to locate. Recently published materials are usually in high demand at the libraries that own them.

What happens if I lose my ILL book?

If you lose an ILL book, you will be charged a fee (usually the cost of the book and a processing fee) that the lending library imposes for the material. The charge will be placed on your library record as a fine and you will be blocked from checking out library materials until you pay the fine.

How do I request material through ILL?

Requesting material via Interlibrary Loan shall be done electronically. Books can be requested through MOBIUS, if the requested material is not own by a MOBIUS member, you may use OCLC Firstsearch to locate and order articles and books. A librarian will be happy to assist you.
