Communications Specialist II/III
Starting Annual Salary: $35,340.00
Full-time, Benefited position

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Ag-Business Division, has a full-time position located in Jefferson City.

Job Description:
This position is responsible for activities supporting and fostering growth in agriculture through communications with producers and consumers. The employee will work closely with the Department’s Communications Director to develop marketing and promotional materials, including brochures, website content, media releases and other articles for publication. This individual will also assist with promotional events and other activities and will provide and publish content for the Department’s social media outlets. Direction is provided by a designated supervisor; however the employee is expected to exercise independence, initiative, creativity and judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Examples of Work:

•Support and promote Department of Agriculture programs and initiatives by developing content for publications, announcements, websites and social media.
•Represent the Department on various committees as directed by a designated supervisor. Brainstorm, mockup and coordinate multiple project ideas.
•Coordinate with internal and external organizations, programs and other stakeholders to develop and revise materials prior to publication.
•Assist with coordination for special events, initiatives and other programs. Organize and facilitate special events and meetings as needed.
•Manage website content updates; coordinate with programmers and designers as needed while ensuring Department and program brand identities are maintained.
•Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Examples of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should have very strong verbal and written communication skills and possess excellent computer skills and talents. Candidates should possess the ability to prepare and present information to organizations and the general public; ability to create promotional materials to stimulate public interest and support for marketing programs; ability to communicate effectively; ability to prepare complete and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agricultural groups and associations, community organizations, government officials and the general public; ability to work varying schedules and to travel in the performance of assigned duties; and the ability to independently establish and complete daily work schedules. The employee in this position must be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Education and Experience Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: agriculture, communications, marketing, public relations or related field.

Two years of applicable experience in communication and excellent writing skills. Candidate must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media. Photography and multimedia skills preferred, including audio and video editing experience. Working knowledge or better of the Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
