Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
This is a supervisory position that is responsible for the SQL Server Database team for the State Data Center (SDC). This position supervises two different type of database administrators (DBAs) the systems and applications DBAs.

The SQL Server Systems DBA supports and administers those services which are directly related to the management of the DBMS software. Major aspects of DBMS software management include installs, upgrades, fixes, patches, version control, security, capacity planning, backup, recovery and documentation.

The Applications Database DBA supports and administers those services which are directly related to the management of our customer databases. Major aspects of database management include analysis, design, creation, maintenance, security, data backup, data recovery, capacity planning, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, data migration, query tuning, scheduled maintenance, disaster recovery and documentation. This person will also perform related duties not listed above as needed or assigned.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The key skills required for this position include the ability to manage people and projects. A general knowledge of various database technologies is desired. Candidate will identify information systems technology improvement opportunities and develop strategies for creation of efficiencies: Candidate must have good communication skills, possess a sense of urgency, be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment, and be able to work well in a team environment. Candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, associates, agency management officials, and information technology vendors.
