Job Description: Head Start Home-Based Specialist

Reports To: Head Start Home-Based Manager

Division: Family Support Services

Summary of Position:
The Head Start Home Based Specialist conducts home visits with with children birth to five and their families, intake assessments, and is responsible for case management, family advocacy and education to families in an assigned caseload. They serve as the primary contact for families providing parenting and child development information as well as sharing responsibility for parent involvement in the program.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
Two years experience working with children birth to 5 years required.
Basic First Aid and CPR certification required. (may complete in first 90-days)

Individual must:
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel and familiarity with e-mail and internet functions.
• Provide compliance monitoring in a proactive and supportive manner.
• Possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated teaching/training skills.
• Develop rapport with consumers including children and their parents.
• Present information to groups and individuals through verbal and written formats.
• Maintain successful clearance on Criminal, Sex Offender, Medical, and Missouri and Kansas Child Abuse/Neglect Background Screenings.
• Speak, read, write and hear English to communicate with community members, clients, co-workers and others.
• Travel throughout the facility, metropolitan area and counties within the service delivery area is required.
• As an employee providing direct services, must be free from tuberculosis.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
Two years experience working with children prenatal to 5 years preferred.
Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish preferred.
Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Somali preferred.
Prior relevant work experience with low income and diverse populations in a community or other relevant setting preferred.
Prior experience working in Head Start programs preferred.
