NY Union Semester is for students who are passionate about social justice. It combines academic scholarship with on-the-ground experience at organizations committed to building a fairer society.

We are now accepting applications for the fall 2013 semester.

NY Union Semester provides undergraduate and graduate students with
• A 32-hour/week, 15-week internship at a New York City labor union or a labor-affiliated organization;
• Labor studies courses at the Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies at the City University of New York (CUNY);
• A weekly stipend and monthly unlimited-ride transit allowance;
• In-state tuition and a scholarship
• A certificate in Labor Studies from CUNY’s School of Professional Studies along with 16 undergraduate or 12 graduate credits; plus
• Networking opportunities and the chance to experience New York City and its rich cultural and political life.

Many New York Union Semester graduates become union or community organizers, researchers, labor lawyers or administrators at not-for-profit organizations. Most students were referred to Union Semester by a contact at their home college or university.

Students wishing to apply for the fall 2013 semester should submit their applications by June 17th. Students can get more information, access the application, and apply online at
