Personal Counseling Services
Attending college can be exciting, but it can also add new stress to a student’s life. Many students face challenges involving anxiety, depression, adjusting to a new environment, interpersonal or relationship problems, or academic struggles. Personal counseling can be a helpful resource for students whose problems are interfering with their school performance and/or their personal lives.
Counseling may…
· help students better manage emotions, stress and anxiety
· provide studentsan opportunity to talk about what is on their mind with an objective person
· help students make decisions, develop goals, learn new coping and problem solving skills
· refer students to appropriate resources on campus or in the community

- Academic – Most students have developed the skills in secondary school to be successful in college, but the academic demands of the University may present a challenge that requires a modification and/or development of new skills. We will work with the student and their advisor to access the student in developing skill sets to be successful.
- Career – During individual consultation, students explore with a counselor possible career paths. Career assessment instruments such as the Self-Directed Search and the Strong Assessment are used to assist in the career exploration process. Additionally the usage of the Occupational Dictionary provides information for: specific jobs, educational requirements, work environment, salary, and the number of job positions needed in the future.
