Types of Financial Aid

Grants and scholarships form the largest part of our financial aid funds. Most funds come from Lincoln's general operations budget, alumni gifts and other contributions. Other assistance comes from the federal and state government. Scholarships and grants do not have to be repaid and range from $200.00 to the cost of attendance.

Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant is a need based federally funded grant (is not repaid) awarded to students pursuing their first undergraduate degree that range from $400 to $4,731 per year.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a grant awarded to undergraduates with exceptional need and range from $200 or more than $1000 a year.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is a grant awarded to full-time students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and who had successfully completed a rigorous high school program, as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the Secretary of Education. Second year students must also have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.  The grant will provide up to $750 for the first year of full-time undergraduate study and up to $1,300 for the second year of full-time undergraduate study.  The grant will be available for the first time for the 2006-2007 academic year for first year students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2006 and for second year students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005. The Academic Competitiveness Grant award is in addition to the student's Pell Grant award.

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (or National SMART Grant) will provide up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth years of undergraduate study to full-time students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and who are majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign language determined critical to national security.  The student must also have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in coursework required for the major.  The National SMART Grant award is in addition to the student's Pell Grant award.

TEACH Grant Program Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Loans

FFELP Loans:
Subsidized Stafford Loan is a low interest loan that must be repaid and is based on financial need and grade level. Students must be enrolled part-time (6 semester hours for undergraduate students and 5 semester hours for graduate students) . The government pays the interest for the student while they are in school.
Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are not based on need. Unlike the Subsidized loan, students (not the government) are responsible for paying the interest while in school, during the six-month grace period, and during periods of authorized deferment. Loan repayment begins 6 months after you leave school at variable interest rates with up to 10 years to repay.
