Math Placement Exam
Any student who does not transfer college credit in mathematics must take the Mathematics Placement Exam (MPE). Take this test seriously because you are allowed to take this exam only one time. You will have an hour to complete the test, and you may use a calculator. Your score will determine the mathematics class in which you will be allowed to register. Since it places students in a broad range of classes, from Basic Mathematics to Calculus I, questions on the MPE range from arithmetic to college algebra and trigonometry. You aren’t expected to know how to do all the problems. Just do your best on the questions you understand. Students are required to bring two number 2 pencils, a photo id, and a calculator (excluding the TI-89, TI-91, TI-92 or cellular/mobile phones).
ACT Residual Exam
The ACT Residual Exam is required of each incoming student who has not previously taken the National ACT test. The exam is a national ACT exam; however, the sub-score you receive in English will determine the English course you will enroll in. The exam will take approximately four hours to complete, and will be offered on the second day of each ROAR 2008 session. Students are required to bring two number 2 pencils, a photo id, and you may use a calculator (excluding the TI-89, TI-91, TI-92 or cellular/mobile phones) for the math portion of the test. The cost of the examination is $30.00. Please mark your ROAR 2008 RSVP Form if it is necessary for you to take this exam and enclose your payment for the examination along with your ROAR fees.
Foreign Language Placement Exam
Students who have completed one or more years of foreign language study in high school may be eligible for advanced placement into FRE or SPA 102, 203 or 204 and for academic credit for the prerequisite course or courses. Students must apply to the Department of Languages, Literature and Philosophy prior to registration for advanced placement. Local placement tests will be administered by the foreign language faculty. Students who place into FRE or SPA 102, 203 or 204 may receive full credit for the prerequisite course or courses provided that they pass the course in which they enroll with a grade of “C” or better. For details and application deadlines, contact the Department of Languages, Literature and Philosophy at (573) 681-5280.
**This exam will only be offered during the last ROAR 2008 session. **
All students are required to take the math placement exam unless Lincoln has received an official college transcript for college credit in math at another institution.
