ELDER-WADE NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE

 

Lincoln University senior guard Brezette Elder-Wade was named to the all-Heartland Conference first team after finishing third in the league in scoring (15.6 points-per-game).  It is the first time a Blue Tiger women’s basketball player has been honored as a first team performer since the senior season of Rhonda Davis in 2004-05.   Jasmine Washington was picked as an honorable mention selection for the Blue Tigers.

   Elder-Wade, who led the league in minutes played (34:12) during the Blue Tigers 8-19 season, is joined by the Montana State University-Billings duo of Alira Carpenter and Michelle Lieber, St. Mary’s Charlena Rodez, Nia Torru of Incarnate Word and Vanessa Villarreal of Texas A&M International on the first team.

   The second team is comprised of Tammy Bartosh from St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s Natalie Gamez, Megan Hamilton of Oklahoma Panhandle and Jermina Tomlinson of Texas A&M International.

   Washington scored 12.2 ppg to rank eighth in the conference.  Also landing on the honorable mention list were Brittany Hardy from Incarnate Word, St. Edward’s Sara Head and Charron Sumler, Dani Henderson and Shantell Marquis of Montana State University-Billings and Texas-Permian Basin players Amanda Synatschk and Amy Synatschk.

   The specialty awards Player of the Year and Coach of the Year were given to the Montana State University-Billings combination of Michelle Lieber and Kevin Woodin.  Other individual winners; Newcomer of the Year – Vanessa Villarreal (Texas A&M International), Defensive Player of the Year – Tammy Bartosh (St. Edward’s) and Freshman of the Year – Nia Torru (Incarnate Word).
