BLUE TIGERS GEARING UP FOR BOSTON

A collection of 21 Lincoln University student-athletes are preparing to compete in 13 events at the 2007 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 9-10 in Boston, Mass.  Twelve Lincoln University women and nine men are participating in championship events for the Blue Tigers.  The women are involved in eight events, while the men are in five.  The championship meet is held in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on the campus of Roxbury Community College.

Not content with the success of 2006, the Blue Tiger women want to repeat after earning the championship trophy at the 21st Annual Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Leading the way for the Blue Tigers is Davita Prendergast.  In 2006, Prendergast posted a new championships record in the 200-meter dash of 24.12, shaving .07 seconds off the previous mark of 24.19.  Her qualifying time of 23.91 is the best time in NCAA Division II this season.  Kerry-Ann Robinson, 2006 triple jump champion enters competition with the 11th best qualifying leap in the triple jump, 11.97meters.  Fifteen student-athletes are vying for championship honors in the triple jump.

Looking for more championship laurels are Wilbert Walker and Decosma Wright.  Walker swept the jump events last winter.  His jump of 7.75 meters is the second best long jump of the 13 student-athletes selected for the event.  Walker owns the top spot in the triple jump, 16.33 meters.  A group of 13 will be trying to stop Walker’s quest for a second triple jump championship.  In 2006, Walker set a championship record in the triple jump, bounding 16.47 meters, breaking the old standard of 16.45.  Decosma Wright lowered the time in the 60 meter hurdles to a championships meet record of 7.69 seconds, one-tenth of a second quicker than the former record of 7.79.
