SEVEN TURNOVER START HINDERS LINCOLN UNIVERSITY

 

Finishing up the second game of a home-and-home series with a scheduling quirk of them being back-to-back games, Lincoln University (1-7) was handed a 60-44 defeat by Truman State University (5-1) in Pershing Arena on Dec. 6 in Kirksville, Mo.

   The Blue Tigers started the game with turnovers on their first seven possessions.  The Bulldogs took advantage of the miscues by the Blue Tigers and opened a 7-0 lead.  Truman State continued to pour it on the visitors from the south and led 33-13 at halftime.  Lincoln University committed 17 first half turnovers, which Truman State turned into 11 points. 

   The Bulldogs lead grew to 23 points on four occasions in the second half the last at 42-19 with 16:46 to play.  A 22-10 run by the Blue Tigers over the next 11:43 saw the Bulldogs lead reduced to 11 points 52-41.  Truman State ended the game on a 14-3 run in the final 5:03 to take the 60-44 win. 

   Lincoln University outscored Truman State University in the second half 31-27. 

   Tiffannie Wolfe recorded a double-double, her first of the season with game highs in points (17) and rebounds (16), 10 coming in the first half.  Brezette Elder-Wade scored only 10 points, 10 points below her season average of 20.4 points-per-game entering the contest. 

   The Blue Tigers missed all five of their 3-point attempts. 

   Candace McGee tossed in 14 points for the victors and Georgia Mueller; the reigning Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the Week added 13 points.  Katie Fowler reached double figures with 10 points.  Carmen McGee scored 9 points and grabbed a team high 12 rebounds for Truman State. 

   The Bulldogs 45.7 percent was the third highest percentage allowed by the Blue Tigers this season. 

   Truman State has prevailed in the last 14 meetings against Lincoln University.

   The Blue Tigers take to the road for a game in Weatherford, Okla. on Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.  The Bulldogs (2-5) beat the Blue Tigers in the season opener for both teams on Nov. 15, 60-54 in Jason Gymnasium.
