SECOND DAY COMEBACK FOR GOLF TEAM
The Lincoln University golf team completed their fall season with a ninth place finish in the University of Missouri-St. Louis Rivermen Invitational. The action on the par 72 WingHaven Country Club course was played from the gold tees (6,807 yards) on Oct. 9-10 in O’Fallon, Mo. The Blue Tigers shot their fifth best score this autumn, a 304 on Oct. 10 to record a 613 (+37) in the 36-hole competition. Lincoln University was one stroke away from a tie for eighth with Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville – B (612 +36).
After day one the Blue Tigers were in 11th place (309 +21). On the second day of play, the golf team surged past Quincy (Ill.) University and St. Joseph’s (Ind.) College to come home in ninth place. At the end of the first day St. Joseph’s (299 +11) was in ninth and Quincy (304 +16) held the 10th position. The second team from SIU-Edwardsville shot 297 (+9) to tie for seventh with Wisconsin-Parkside after day one. Wisconsin-Parkside (603 +27) ended the event seventh.
Rodolfo Gamino paced the Blue Tigers by shooting his second best 36-hole score of the fall (147 +3). The two-day total posted by Gamino placed him in a three-way tie for 13th. The best 36-hole score by Gamino this autumn was a 144 (73-71 +2) on day one of the 8th Annual Northeastern (Tahlequah, Okla.) State University Men’s Golf Classic on Sept. 25.
Dan Frost had his fourth best two-round total (36 holes) of the fall. He tied for 28th with a 150 (+6). Kortland Ware shot a 155 (+11) to tie for 39th. The 155 by Kortland Ware tied for his third best two-round finish this fall. Keith Ware (165 +21) finished 66th and Matthew Cromer (169 +25) was 69th.
Northern Kentucky (Highland Heights, Ky.) University earned the team title shooting a 565 (-11). Kyle Leach of Bellarmine (Louisville, Ky.) University captured medalist honors as he recorded a 137 (-7). The Norse of Northern Kentucky was the only school to have each of their four scoring student-athletes in the top 15 as individuals. Northern Kentucky had players finish second (140 -4), two tied for third (141 -3) and one tied for 13th (147 +3).
In the six events the Blue Tigers participated in this fall, they finished in the top 10 on four occasions. The Blue Tigers golf team had an average finish of 8.83 out of an average of 14 teams per meet. Among the four golfers who played in all 13 rounds this fall, Dan Frost averaged 74.46 strokes per round, Rodolfo Gamino 75.38, Kortland Ware 78.6 and Keith Ware 79.38. Aaron Murphy played in three meets (six rounds) and had an 80.83 average, while Matthew Cromer averaged 81.2 in five rounds (two meets).
