GOLF STRUGGLES IN OKLAHOMA

   The Lincoln University golf team finished the 8th Annual Northeastern (Tahlequah, Okla.) Oklahoma State University Men’s Golf Classic in 11th place.  The event was played Sept. 25 and 26 on the 6,665 yard, par 71 Muskogee Country Club course.  The Blue Tigers recorded a 902 (+50) in the 54-hole event.

   Dan Frost and Rodolfo Gamino led the Blue Tigers to a tie for 8th place (592) with St. Mary’s (Texas) upon completion of the first day of play (two rounds).   Frost ended the meet in a tie for 5th after posting a 73 on day two for a 216 (+3) score.  Gamino tied for 23rd (223 +10) and Kortland Ware tied for 47th (231 +18).  Playing in his first meet this fall Matthew Cromer tied for 69th (237 +24) and Keith Ware shot a 241 (+28) to tie for 76th.

   Washburn University (Topeka, Kan.) won the team title shooting an 866 (+14).  Jamie Amoretti of St. Mary’s (Texas) earned medalist honors for first place as he carded a 210 (-3).  Washburn was the only school to place two golfers in the top-10; Ryan Deutsch (2nd, 211 -2) and Taylor Dunham (T 5th, 216 +3).  All four scoring student-athletes for the Ichabods were in the top 16 of the meet.

   Lincoln University fared well on par three holes, averaging a 3.33 per hole (6th overall, +20).  The team was a combined 63-over par (+63) on par 4 (4.35 +58) and par 5 (5.11 +5) holes.  The Blue Tigers tied the Mules of Central Missouri for third in shooting par 74 percent of the time (159 pars/216 opportunities).  Frost was +1 on par 4 holes and made nine birdies.  Gamino was +1 playing the par 3 holes and made par on 39 of 54 holes (72 percent).

   The Blue Tigers next meet is Oct 1-3 at the Drury University-Deerfield Inn Fall Classic.  The event is to be played on the 7,066 yard, par 72 Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.
