BLUE TIGERS FINISH IN MIDDLE AT SILO RIDGE

The Blue Tigers completed the first half of their fall season with a seventh place finish in the Southwest Baptist University Invitational held Sept. 18-19.  Lincoln University shot a two-day total of 621 on the tough course at Silo Ridge Country Club (6,763 yard, par 72).  The Blue Tigers were close to ending the event in the top five as they trailed fifth place Missouri Western (612) by nine strokes.  Each of the 10 schools in the event was an NCAA Division II institution.

Washburn University (Topeka, Kan.) won the team title shooting a 586.  A one-two finish in the individual standings by the Ichabods propelled Washburn to first place.  Picking up individual honors for first place was Matt Ewald (73-68, 141 -3) and teammate Ryan Deutsch (75-67, 142 -2) was a stroke back in second.  The Ichabods had an impressive second-day as they shot a four-under par 284.  All four scoring student-athletes for the Ichabods were in the top 13 of the meet.

Kortland Ware (so., St. Louis, Mo., Jackson {Miss.} State) recorded a season-best two rounds of play (73-80, 153 +9) to tie for 13th.  Dan Frost finished in a tie for 17th (78-76, 154 +10).  It is the first golf event this fall in which two Blue Tigers have finished in the top 20.

After opening the season in a tie for 23rd at the Missouri Intercollegiate (Sept. 5-6) at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo., Rodolfo Gamino again tied for 23rd (79-76, 155 +11) at the SBU Invitational.  Keith Ware ended in a tie for 42nd (79-80, 159 +15) and Aaron Murphy (83-82, 165 +21) tied for 56th.

The Bearcats of Southwest Baptist fared better than the Blue Tigers who beat them earlier this month at the Missouri Intercollegiate.  Southwest Baptist placed sixth (616) in the SBU Invitational and Lincoln University seventh (621).

The Blue Tigers travel to Muskogee, Okla. for their next meet.  The Lincoln University golf team participates in the 8th Annual Northeastern (Tahlequah, Okla.) Oklahoma State University Men’s Golf Classic, Sept. 24-26.  The meet is at the Muskogee Country Club, a 6,665 yard, par 71 course.
