BLUE TIGERS FINISH BACK IN PACK

 

   In their second meet of the season the Lincoln University cross-country team came in 30th with 788 points at the 18th Annual Southern Stampede on Saturday, Sept. 16.  Harding University (Searcy, Ark.) won the five kilometer event with 56 points, as each of their five point-producing runners ended in the top 19 of the field. 

   Faithy Kamangila of Oral Roberts University (Tulsa, Okla.) won the meet in 16:53.4. 

   The only NCAA Division II school which Lincoln University was quicker than was Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Durant, Okla.).  The Savage Storm ended in 34th totaling 969 points.

   A group of 286 runners competed in the women’s race with 220 trying to earn points for their school. 

  Setting the pace for the Blue Tigers was Nessa Paul.  She completed the course at Fred G. Hughes Stadium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. in a time of 18:59.01.  Paul improved upon her season opening meet time by 18 seconds. 

   Kaydian Howell was the only other Blue Tiger to finish in top half of the overall field.  Howell crossed the finish line in 20:29.1 (129th).  Howell shaved 37 seconds off her Miner Invitational time.

   The Blue Tigers also received point producing efforts from Thelma Smith (200th, 23:50.1), Semonia Clemons (208th, 24:25.7) and Monique Robinson (212th, 24:58.1).  Also competing for Lincoln University was Jamie Thomas (216th, 26:36.6).

   The Blue Tigers next meet is Friday, Sept. 22 at the Gary Stoner Memorial-Twilight Open.  The five kilometer race will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
