BLUE TIGERS TIE LOW ROUND

   Playing in the weather shortened Cougar Classic on Friday, Sept. 15 the Blue Tigers finished in seventh with 303 strokes.  The round of 303 ties for the team low of the fall, which they set in the second round on the first day of the Missouri Intercollegiate played Sept. 5-6 at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.    

   The host Cougars of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville won their event with a team total of 286.  The final round of play on Saturday (Sept. 16) on the 6,827 yard, par 72 Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River, Ill. was cancelled and results from the first round were used as final results. 

   In the 18-hole event Dan Frost (jr., Columbia, Mo., Hickman H.S.) continued to play well.  Frost shot a two-over par 74 (37-37) to end in a tie for 18th in the event.  It is the second fall golf meet in which Frost has been the only Blue Tiger to finish in the top-20.

   Kyle Lickenbrock of SIU-Edwardsville carded the lowest score with a five-under par 67.  Zane Belden from McKendree College (Lebanon, Ill.) tallied a two-under 70 for second place with Bergen Price (Lindenwood University) and Matt Thomas (Missouri-St. Louis) ending in a third place tie at one-under par (71).

   The Blue Tigers came in fourth out of five NCAA Division II institutions in the event. 

   Lincoln University was beaten by two schools, which placed behind them at the Missouri Intercollegiate.  Lindenwood University placed fourth (294) and the University of Missouri-St. Louis sixth (301) in the Cougar Classic.

   Individually for Lincoln University; finishing in a tie for 29th at 75 was Rodolfo Gamino, Keith Ware tied for 31st with 76, while Kortland Ware and Aaron Murphy each shot a 78 to tie for 41st.

   Murphy made four birdies on the day and Gamino hit par on 14 holes.

   The Blue Tigers are playing today and tomorrow (Sept. 18-19) in the SBU Invitational hosted by Southwest Baptist University (Bolivar, Mo.).  The meet is being played on the challenging 6,763 yard, par 72 course at Silo Ridge Country Club.
