PAUL PLACES SECOND FOR BLUE TIGERS
Nessa Paul started the season for the Lincoln University cross-country team by racing to a second place finish in the Miner Invitational on Sept. 9 in Rolla, Mo. Paul, a senior from Soufriere, St. Lucia completed the five kilometer course in a time of 19:17.1. Jacquie Frost of Truman State University (Kirksville, Mo.) won the top spot in 18:17.2.
Kaydian Howell, a sophomore from Jamaica was the only other Blue Tiger to finish in the top-20. Howell ran the course in 21:06.0 to place sixteenth.
Drury University (Springfield, Mo.) won the team title with 36 points and host University of Missouri-Rolla was second with 65 points. Truman State placed third (73 points), while the Blue Tigers came in fourth with 106 points, followed by McKendree College (Lebanon, Ill.) in fifth 115 points and St. Louis College of Pharmacy in sixth with 131 points.
Also picking up points for Lincoln University was Thelma Smith (32nd, 24:03), Semonia Clemons (36th, 25:15) and Kerry-Ann Robinson (43rd, 26:30). Additional competitors for the Blue Tigers were Shelly Ann Berth (47th, 27:40) and Monique Robinson (48th, 28:11).
The Blue Tigers next meet is on Sept. 16 in the 18th Annual Southern Stampede. The meet will be contested over a five kilometer distance beginning at 9:00 a.m. in Joplin, Mo. at Fred G. Hughes Stadium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
