BLUE TIGERS RUN WELL

One current and three former Blue Tigers participated in the 20th Annual Central America and Caribbean Games, which wrapped up earlier this week in Cartagena, Colombia, South America.

Present Lincoln University student-athlete Wilbert Walker (jr., St. Thomas, Jamaica) and past Blue Tigers; Shandria Brown (Bahamas), Lerone Clarke (Jamaica) and Fabian Felix (St. Lucia, West Indies) participated in the 20th CAC Games.

A leap of 53 feet-6 inches by Walker in the triple jump earned him third place.  By bounding 24 feet-2 inches in the long jump, Walker qualified for the final, but he did not make an attempt in the medal round.  Brown, who completed her eligibility in the spring of 2005, ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter dash for the third place team from the Bahamas.  The group from the Bahamas ended the race in 44.34 seconds, four-hundredths (.04) of a second off the pace of the champions from Cuba (43.29).  Clarke, who also exhausted his eligibility in 2005, took fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.28 seconds.  Clarke ran the leadoff leg of the 4x100-meter dash for the Jamaican team, which came in third place (39.45 seconds), sixteen-hundredths (.16) of a second behind the champions of Netherlands Antilles (39.29).  Felix, who capped his collegiate career in May for the Blue Tigers, ran a time of 48.65 seconds in the 400 meter dash, which did not qualify him for the semifinal round.

It has been a busy summer for Walker, who in July captured a silver medal in the triple jump with a leap of 53 feet-08 inches and fourth place in the long jump (25 feet-09 inches) at the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Athletic Association Under-23 Track and Field Championship at Felix Sanchez Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on July 9.  Also at the NACAC competition, Lincoln University sprinter Darian Forbes (sr., Turks and Caicos Islands) placed fifth in the 200 meter dash in 21.05 seconds.
