How Do I…

Get an email address
All Lincoln University employees are encouraged to obtain and use a University email account. University information, including current campus activities and computing information are transmitted through University email accounts. To obtain a University email account, contact the OIT helpdesk. Also, consider requesting a WebAdvisor account at the same time (see below).

Get a Novell login
Novell is our local area network (LAN) system. University computers are connected to the LAN in order to gain access to shared resources, including printers and shared folders. Most university computers require a user to login to the Novell LAN before gaining access to their PC. To request a Novell account user id and password, contact the OIT helpdesk. To gain access to shared resources, have your department head email or call the helpdesk with a list of the specific files or folders that you will need to access.

Get access to the Administrative Computer (Datatel) system
Most access to the Datatel system, including student advisement and registration, is granted through the WebAdvisor interface (see below). Those users who must access the Datatel system directly through the User Interface (UI) program, will need to fill out the appropriate request form (Financial access, Human Resource access, or Student System access. Part of the form will be filled out by the employee and signed by their supervisor. The security portion of the form will be completed and signed by the Vice President.

Get access to the WebAdvisor system
All employees are eligible for access to the WebAdvisor system [more info]. In WebAdvisor, faculty can access information to advise students, and can even register them. Faculty can check their advisees' transcripts, search for classes, view class rosters, input grades, and more. All employees can view their position summaries and leave plans. To obtain a WebAdvisor account, contact the OIT helpdesk.

Get assistance with my telephone, fax, or other telecom equipment
Fill out the on-line OIT service request form.  Check 'Telephone Issue' and explain your problem in the provided space.  A helpdesk case will be created and someone from OIT will contact you to correct your problem.

Request PC setups, shared printer access, software installed

Yes, shutting down your computer daily releases all system resources and rebooting allows the operation system to repair itself if errors have occurred.

What if I need to move my computer to another location?
Relocation of equipment, including computers is handled by the Buildings and Grounds department. Please contact OIT before having your equipment moved. We will prepare the equipment for transport, and hook it up again in its new location.
