M. Ed. in School Administration and Supervision /M. Ed. in School Teaching / M. Ed. in Guidance and Counseling

Masters of Ed. in School Administration and Supervision:


Applications for this program must have a valid teaching certificate from the Missouri department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The program for School Administration and Supervision is designed to prepare individuals for administrative, supervisory and other leadership positions in the American school system. Specifically, the program leads to the master of education degree with an emphasis in Elementary School Administration, Secondary School Administration, or Special Education Administration. The course of study is for graduates with a valid Missouri elementary, secondary, or special education teaching certificate and a minimum of two years of teaching experience in the respective areas, and who have completed a course in psychology and education of the exceptional child. Such graduates are eligible, upon satisfactory completion of the State of Missouri's Administrators Assessment Center Process, for initial certification as principals in Missouri Class A and Class AA schools. (Qualified graduates of Program Option III may serve in special education administration and supervision positions in AAA schools.)

Application for State of Missouri School Administration and Supervision certification is the student's responsibility

Masters in Education in School Teaching:

Applicants for this program must have a valid teaching certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The program for school teachers provides advanced study in theories and evaluation of good practices in teaching, while allowing the teacher to select a series of courses which suppo0rt his/her own professional goals. Specifically, the program leads to the Maser of Education degree with an emphasis in Elementary or Secondary Teaching. The program is composed of 36 hours, 18 required core professional hours and 18 chosen by the teacher and advisor as a support area.

A. CORE CURRICULUM - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHING

   1. Professional Studies Components:

    2. Support Area-Each student must develop a plan, with the advisor's approval, which meets one of the following options:

        a. 15-18 hours in one or two of the following subject matter fields: English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and science.

        b. 12-15 hours of Psychology and philosophy courses.

        c. 12-15 hours of Special Education.

        d. 12-15 hours in Guidance and Counseling.

        e. 12 hours in Middle School Education.

        f. 18 hours of course work from two or more disciplines as approved by the advisor.

    3. In addition to the Professional Studies Area, students may take 1-6 semester hours of electives, with the advisor's approval, to complete the 36 semester hour program.

STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 36 SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS TO MEET DEGREE REQUIREMENTS.

Masters in Education in Guidance and Counseling:

Counselor Education is a graduate-level preparation for prospective counselors who seek employment in school guidance, student personnel services in higher education, mental health agencies, and various other settings.

Persons considering this major should have completed a broad undergraduate program of study including courses in psychology, sociology, and communication skills. For those persons seeking counseling positions in public elementary or secondary schools, the Missouri Department Elementary or Secondary Education requires a teaching certificate and two years of teaching experience. NOTE: Application for State of Missouri Counseling Certificate is the student's responsibility.

            In addition to the 24 core hours (A), students working toward certification as elementary school counselors must complete the following course requirements:

        2. Secondary School Guidance and Counseling

            In addition to the core 24 hours (A), students working toward certification as secondary school counselors must complete the following course requirements:
