Tip - Stop Think Click Campaign

The Federal Trade Commission unveiled today a new web site (www.OnGuardOnline.gov) that provides practical tips to help consumers be on guard against Internet fraud, secure their computers, and protect personal information.  The new "stop - think - click" campaign is part of the kick-off to National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October. The web site includes 7 tips for safe computing (http://onguardonline.gov/stopthinkclick.html):

  1. Protect your personal information.  It's valuable.
  2. Know who you're dealing with.
  3. Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and update both regularly.
  4. Be sure to set up your operating system and Web browser software properly, and update them  regularly.
  5. Protect your passwords.
  6. Back up important files.
  7. Learn who to contact if something goes wrong online.
