Vocal Ensemble LUVE
Lincoln University has had a touring choir since the mid-1940s. Former members of the touring choir are located throughout the United States of America and in several foreign countries. Membership in the organization is by audition.
The Lincoln University Vocal Ensemble is open to anyone who can successfully pass the audition requirements. The group is comprised of music majors and minors. The forerunner of the LUVE consisted of five students within the University Choir who were interested performing a variety of vocal literature including gospel and jazz music. The name of the group became the Lincoln University Vocal Ensemble and was included in the music curriculum in 1978. The LUVE has become very popular on and off campus.
Under the direction of Mr. John Petzet, they have traveled to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall, performed the "Messiah" with world renown guest artists at the LU Winter Choral Concert, performed with the University of Missouri-Singers in February 2002, Midwest Recruitment Tour, featured guests at the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., "Tribute to Black Colleges and Universities Program," in Wichita, Kansas, "NAACP Legislative on the Hill Day," Kentucky State University, Tuskegee University, and many other requested performances.
The LUVE will be making an educational compact disc for the William Grant Still Music Company. This project was a request from Judith Still, the daughter of the late William Grant Still. Dr. Still has written many outstanding choral pieces and we feel honored of this request. The LUVE will tour Florida and Europe during the 2003-2004 school year. |
