Electronic Mail at Lincoln University

How to Obtain an Email Account

Faculty, Staff and Students already have iPlanet Messenger accounts created for them at the time of employment or enrollment. If you do not think that you have an account setup, please call the OIT Helpdesk at x5898. All accounts are subject to Lincoln University's Electronic Mail Fair use Policy.

Accessing Your Account

You may access your account in one of two ways: WEBmail or Pop3.

To access your account via iPlanet Messenger Express (web), browse web mail server (emaill.lincolnu.edu) and enter your usercode and password. For more information, see the online guide to Using iPlanet Messenger Express

To access your account via Pop3, you need to contact OIT via our online Service Request.

Email Account Quotas

Due to space constraints on the server, student email accounts are limited to 10MB of space. This will not effect Outlook users who download their mail to their desktops. It will also not effect iPlanet Messenger Express users who properly attend their mail. The purpose of the quotas are to eliminate problems caused by users who continually use too much server space. To get an idea how much space 10MB really is, it equals roughly 2000 normal text emails or 100 emails with large picture attachments. Once a user reaches 90% of their quota, the system will send an email warning. After the 10MB quota is reached, the system will give the user 5 days before it stops receiving mail for that account. Mail over the 10MB quota may be delayed until the storage used is reduced. Attachments larger than the 10MB quota will not be delivered. Faculty and staff quota is 100mb.
