Cooperative Research

The primary mission of the Lincoln University Cooperative Research Program is to enhance the quality of life for diverse, limited resource audiences through supportive research at state, regional, national and international levels.

Our research program concentrates on essential subject areas which are relevant to Missouri residents, and it supports research for both immediate and future applications.  LU Cooperative Research  is currently conducting research in the following areas of focus, witha research team having been assigned to each area:

  • Plant Science

Research within the program is conducted at both fundamental and applied levels.  At each level the goal is to advance knowledge and to improve the quality of life of minorities, persons with limited resources, and small-farm families throughout Missouri.  An interdisciplinary team approach to research is designed and is used to enhance an integrated, mutually supportive program of extension, campus instruction and research in agricultural and environmental sciences.

The Lincoln University Cooperative Research Program is an integral component of the land grant mission, which received $450,000 of initial funding in 1972 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop a human nutrition research laboratory and to fund research in animal science.  Since 1972 the annual budget has grown to more than $2 million, and the program employs more than 40 people on either a full-time or part-time basis, as well as undergraduate students who assist our scientists and technicians each year with their projects.  This experiential learning allows students to earn incomes while gaining hands on knowledge.
