In 2000 Michael Fosberg began writing his autobiographical drama, Incognito, which tells the story of a young man who is raised by his biological mother and adopted white father and discovers that his real father is African-American. As it turns out, his father has family roots in Jefferson City and Lincoln University. His great, great grandfather was a member of the 54th Colored Infantry during the Civil War. The one-man play has been performed in several Missouri theatres as well as New York and at various festivals. A critic writes, “Fosberg’s justly acclaimed show is one of those rare solo pieces that managed to combine a sense of personal revelation with a palpable universal appeal. As in the best of such pieces, Fosberg’s . . . personality commands the stage for a two-hour show about his own life, yet he’s also an everyman figure able to spark empathy as he negotiates a life full of extraordinary people and events.”Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune Michael Fosberg graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in acting, directing and playwriting. Subsequently, he became the co-founder of the Huron Theatre in Chicago where he has also appeared in numerous productions in local venues. In the 1980s he moved to California where he worked in television and film while also teaching stage combat at the Buckley School of Drama. In 2000 Michael returned to Chicago where he wrote, Incognito.
