Lincoln University Foundation, Inc. President Victor B. Pasley is cycling 1,400-miles from Rochester, New York, to the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City, Missouri. The tour, known as Pathway to Greatness – 1866 to 2009, is an effort to raise a $1 million to fund scholarships for Lincoln University students.
Pasley, a 1968 graduate of Lincoln University and a 30-year employee of the Xerox Corporation, where he currently serves as Vice-President of Lean Six Sigma Development, will stop in several cities along his route, where he will be hosted by Lincoln University alumni chapters or delegations. Tour cities and expected arrival dates include Detroit (May 16); Chicago (May 30); Indianapolis (June 6) and St. Louis (June 13). His first stop was Cleveland on May 2. Local alumni have scheduled exciting events at each stop aimed at promoting the ride, Lincoln University and good health. In addition, Pasley invites alumni, family and friends to join him for a leg of the tour as he passes through their respective areas.
Sybil Wilkes, co-host of the nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, has signed on as the national chairperson for the fundraiser. Wilkes has family ties to Lincoln University. Her grandfather, the late Dr. Sherman D. Scruggs, served as the 12th President of Lincoln University, from 1938 to 1956. The Tom Joyner Foundation, a Pathway to Greatness – 1866 to 2009 partner, is actively involved in the fundraiser, which will be promoted by both Wilkes and Joyner during the radio program, which airs on more than 100 stations and has an average audience of more than eight million listeners nationwide.
Pasley says he came up with the idea of the ride when he was trying to think of the best way to pay homage to his alma mater, while leaving a legacy for the future students of the university.
“My wife Pamela and I have been giving back to Lincoln University for years, but after I was elected president of the Foundation I wanted to find another way I could have a lasting and profound impact on the health and welfare of our alma mater. I think the Pathway to Greatness will give me that opportunity. I’m really looking forward to it,” says Pasley.
