Current Research Interests
Dr. Balasubramanian's current research interests are in the fields of biomedical imaging and nanophotonics. He uses light in The Adaptive Optics and Nanophotonics Lab in a variety of ways. Coherent light's interferometric property is used to look at surfaces, surface vibrations as well as sub-surface features in tissue. Diffused light is used to look at deep areas inside tissue. He also develop optical biosensors and nanosensors to target specific bio-molecule detection.
Current Teaching Interests
Dr. Balasubramanian is currently involved in applying advanced teaching methodologies, including Just In Time Teaching and Activity-Based Learning that were developed for the physical sciences, to general education classes here at Lincoln University. He is attempting to adapt these techniques in an Earth Science class. He is also heavily involved in revamping the introductory physics laboratories here.
