Current Projects
Using Experiential Learning in Natural Resources to Mentor Students` Professional Development - CoPI: Dr. Russ Reidinger, Funded by USDA CSREES 1890 Capacity Building Teaching Grant (2008-2011)
Project Summary:  We will recruit college freshmen and sophomores in natural resources, including underrepresented students, into mentoring relationships and provide them with significant professional development training.  The mentoring model that we will utilize is experiential learning through the collection and preparation of representative vertebrate specimens for our natural resources museum collection.  Students that have the benefit of participating in this project will be better prepared to participate in a variety of other professional development activities and they will be more competitive pursuing natural resource careers with USDA or other agencies.  This project is designed to incorporate novel opportunities for our students while strengthening existing partnerships.  At the current time, USDA-APHIS supports a select number of underrepresented students in the natural resources area at Lincoln University during their junior and senior year.  We plan to reach out to a larger number of students at an earlier stage in their professional development and prepare them for subsequent experiences.  We expect that this project will enhance the natural resources academic degree program and the natural resources specimen collection at Lincoln University.

Developing an Office of Research Development at Lincoln University of Missouri, Funded by the National Institutes of Health (2006-2011)
Project Summary:  The primary goal of the Office of Research Development at Lincoln University of Missouri is to develop and enhance the research infrastructure of the university.  The general strategy is to "pursue partnerships and strategic opportunities".  The ORD is available as an information, development and support resource for faculty and students as well as coordinating research related information and providing research training and research funding opportunities.  The ORD works closely with the Lincoln University Office of Sponsored Research and Gants and the Lincoln University Department of Defense Liaison.
