New Year Brings New Faces to Lincoln University Athletics
[Jefferson City, MO] When school starts at Lincoln University later this month, student athletes will notice several changes in the coaching and administrative staff. Betty Kemna has been named Athletic Director, overseeing all of the university’s athletic programs. Replacing Kemna in her former position as Assistant Athletic Director/Compliance is David Thurkill. He joins Lincoln University after having served as the Legislative Associate for the NCAA. Tim Abney, who most recently served as the university’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Head Women’s Tennis Coach, has been named to the position of Assistant Athletic Director/Academics. He will also continue to coach tennis. Brian Kortz will serve as the Sports Information Director, coming from Barry University, in Miami, Florida, where he served as Assistant Sports Information Director.
Several new head coaches will lead the Blue Tiger teams in their 2009-2010 seasons.   John Redmond, previously Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the university, has been named Head Men’s Basketball Coach. On the women’s side, Katie Vaughn is the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach, after having served in the same position at Moberly Area Community College. Nicole Stacey, former Head Softball Coach at Westminster College, will hold the same title at Lincoln University, as well as serving as the Concessions Manager.
Also new to Blue Tiger Athletics this year is Head Football Coach Nathan Cochran, who was hired in January. Cochran most recently served as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. Football season kicks off at Lincoln University on Saturday, August 29, when the team plays Upper Iowa University at 7 p.m., at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
