Student Conduct Code

Article VI: Violations

Section I.

Category I violations shall include, but not limited to, the following violations: Intervisitation violation

  • Propping doors open in a secured building
  • Loud music
  • Disruptive behavior
  • Unescorted presence in a residence hall
  • Refusal to comply with a University officials request
  • Use of opposite sex restrooms
  • Use of illegal appliances in residence hall rooms
  • Violation of quiet hours in residence halls
  • Maintaining unsanitary conditions in a residence hall room
  • Unauthorized sale and/or distribution of food in Scruggs University Center
  • Throwing objects out of residence hall windows
  • Removing screens from residence hall windows
  • Use of flame devices; e.g., candles, incense, etc.
  • Parking violations
  • Verbal abuse
  • Profanity

Section II.

Category II violations shall include, but not limited to, the following violations:

  • Petty theft
  • Minor assault
  • Vandalism
  • Pranks
  • Falsely identifying ones self
  • Manipulation of safety devices; e.g., fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and elevator controls
  • Harassment
  • Unauthorized solicitation and sales on campus and at University sponsored events off-campus
  • The use of computing facilities to view any pornographic material over the Internet
  • Any extreme manifestation of violations cited in Section I

Misconduct of Section II, Category II which, if substantiated, may result in sanctions ranging from 10-20 hours of community service per week not to exceed one semester. Category II cases are adjudicated by the Student Conduct Panel. Its decisions may be appealed to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Vice President for Student Affairs decision is final.

Section III.

Category III violations shall include, but not limited to, the following violations:

  • Possession of a concealed weapon
  • Intimidation of University officials
  • Inducing panic
  • Inducing riot
  • Aggravated riot
  • Inciting violence
  • Burglary
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Vandalism
  • Disruption of public services
  • Arson
  • Aggravated arson
  • Sexual battery
  • Rape
  • Extortion
  • Abduction
  • Kidnapping
  • Menacing behavior
  • Assault
  • Aggravated assault
  • Involuntary manslaughter
  • Murder
  • Aggravated murder
  • Felonious sexual penetration
  • Domestic violence
  • Consumption, sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages
  • Consumption, sale or distribution of controlled substances
  • Violation of any building curfew
  • Cheating on examinations
  • Forgery
  • Trespassing
  • Hazing
  • Any violation of a previously imposed sanction

Misconduct of Section III, Category III, if substantiated, may result in suspension or expulsion. Category III cases are adjudicated by the Student Affairs Committee. The Student Affairs Committee makes recommendations for disciplinary actions to the Vice President for Student Affairs who imposes the sanctions. There will be zero tolerance for possession of illegal drugs on campus or participation in any type of melee. Either of these will be grounds for suspension or expulsion depending on the severity of the offense.
