Student Conduct Code

Introduction

The Student Conduct System of Lincoln University is regulated by the Student Conduct Code which is administered by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Allegations of student misconduct are provided due process adjudication according to the category of the alleged offense. The Student Conduct Code classifies cases in one of the following categories:

  1. Category I Violations;
  2. Category II Violations; and
  3. Category III Violations

Category I violations are adjudicated by the Residence Hall Disciplinary Council; Category II violations are adjudicated by the Student Conduct Panel; and Category III violations are adjudicated by the Student Affairs Committee.

According to the nature of the allegations, cases may be appealed to the Vice President for Student Affairs and University President. The Vice President for Student Affairs appoints the chairperson and committee members for the Residence Hall Disciplinary Council, the Student Conduct Panel, and the Student Affairs Committee.

  1. Residence Hall Disciplinary Council consists of one faculty or staff member, and 10 students residing in the residence halls. Only 5 of the 10 students will meet per case.
  2. The Student Conduct Panel consists of one faculty member, two Student Affairs professionals (one shall be chair and the other shall be recorder), one other university staff member and two students.
  3. The Student Affairs Committee pool will consist of a combination of 32 faculty, staff and students. The quorum shall be five voting members. The chair shall not have a vote. Audiotapes are made at the investigation level. Also, audiotapes and written transcripts are made of all hearings which are conducted by the Student Affairs Committee. The Student Conduct System is committed to the student development model.

The student development philosophy emanates from the belief that each student is unique and as such requires individual attention and application in the teaching-learning process. The University has the responsibility of providing a variety of activities and educational experiences which enhance the student’s self-concept, self-confidence, creativity and interdependence with significant others within the total University community.
