Mission Statement
The mission of Career, Counseling & Disability Services (CC&DS) is to provide high quality service in the areas of personal, academic, social, and career counseling to the University's diverse student population (i.e. academically at-risk students, physically challenged students and non-traditional student population). Additionally, Career, Counseling & Disability Services serves as a support system in conjunction with the academic areas, while simultaneously promoting student growth and development, thus contributing to the learning process beyond the classroom.
Role
The mission of Career, Counseling & Disability Services involves the following:
- to provide career facts to those students entering the University, especially those who have not declared a major
- to provide assessments and counseling which assist students to internalize their potential as citizens in the competitive American society
- to refer students requiring counseling services beyond those offered by Career, Counseling & Disability Services to appropriate local agencies
- to provide national and local testing services to the University and surrounding communities
- to ensure that personnel receive opportunities for participation in staff development training
- to facilitate and provide leadership in the University's efforts to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the American with Disabilities Act, and
- to contribute to the recruitment and retention rates of prospective and current students
